WHAT PUSHED THE PERFORMANC DOWN
Most of the stocks were hit by profit taking as well as ongoing market slowness (Dow is down 2nd week in a row for total 2 week performance of -1.5%).
However 3 stocks in particular were hit hard
GILD -4%
JLG -4%
GYI -7%

Getty has snapped back almost all the way, but they hit our stop loss of $89. The cause was a double hit of forecasted slowing in earnings and the CFO’s retirement.

As pointed out in the last blog, we needed to get defensive with PWR and DESC. Both have continued a slide and we locked in moderate gains (3% and 8.2% respectively) via our stop loss. So while I regret the GYI stop loss, the stop loss on these other more than made up for it. Bottom line: we locked in positive gains.

SOME GOOD NEWS
Amidst the general weakness this weak, three stocks showed remarkable strength: WFMI, MRVL, GYI.
WFMI – Retailers are a sector to be in right now with a continuing strong economy and with the holidays on the way. And, it’s Whole Foods –a best of breed company.
MRVL – Amidst Intel’s announcement of lower expectations, MRVL continues to show strength. Intel is not quite a one trick pony, but close to it. MRVL however is in multiple key markets including, for example, chipsets for the new Apple video iPod.
GYI - Yep, Getty is very resilient and I am sorry that we had a stop/loss event. I haven’t had a chance to dive into their earnings forecast to suggest whether or not getting back in is a good thing (typically it isn’t) but the strength is very encouraging.

NEXT STEPS
I haven’t completed a review of several stocks that I do like. However, one I wish I’d found sooner is SRZ. More later tonite.
